George Edward Gann, Sr. died Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at home surrounded by his wife and family. Mr. Gann was a Korean War Veteran serving in the Army. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and son. Born in South Carolina on December 3, 1932, Mr. Gann moved to Staten Island, NY with his mother in 1948. He was an avid gardener who loved to read and always had a wonderful sense of humor.

In 1952, Mr. Gann married his childhood sweetheart Catherine Caputo and together they had five wonderful children. He leaves behind his mother, Minnie Lee O’Donnell of Boiling Springs and his wife of 54 years, Catherine Gann, and a brother, Charles Gann of Clinton, SC. He is survived by three daughters, Gail Seals of Cannons Camp Ground, SC, Gloria Gann of Chesnee, and Gerrie Harris of Chesnee; two sons, George Gann, Jr. of Chesnee and Glenn Gann of Boiling Springs; his daughter-in-laws, Helene Gann and Cathey Gann; and also a son-in-law, Calvin Seals.

For many years Mr. Gann with his wife Cathy, owned and operated Cathy’s Mini Mart and Cathy’s Beauty Aids in Port Richmond Staten Island, NY. After his retirement he and his wife moved to Beth Lane in Chesnee. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Daniel Erling Gann and John Joseph Harris, III. He leaves behind his grandchildren, George Gann the 3rd, Christopher Gann, David Gann, Justin Rhodes, Jarred Seals, Matthew Seals, Colleen Rooney, Joseph Harris, Alex Gann, Kevin Harris, Glenn Gann, Jr., Mitchell Gann, and Cara Gann; two step-granddaughters, Joann and Michele; and twelve great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 1, 2006 from 4:00 till 6:00 p.m. at Eggers Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow in Eggers Funeral Home Chapel at 6:00 PM with Chaplain John Scherberger officiating. Cremation will follow.
