--Occupation: She was a legal assistant in Washington, DC and then in the civil service with the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, she moved to Denton, NC where her parents then lived. Hazel taught business in the local high school while she earned her master's degree from Appalachian State University. In 1961, she went to Germany and taught high school at an army base, and was able to travel extensively in Europe. She returned to the U.S. in 1963 and taught high school in Berlin, Maryland until her retirement in 1986.
--She retired to Charlotte to live next door to her brother Melvin Hoover and his wife (her grave is beside theirs). In 2008 Hazel moved to Cedar Ridge retirement community in Burlington, to be close to family members.
