Mankato resident Victor C. Bengtson, 87, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Charles Ortloff officiating. Burial is in Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery.
Visitation is 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Landkamer Johnson-Boman Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Mr. Bengtson was born Jan. 8, 1914, to Gustaf and Bessie (Benson) Bengtson in Mankato. He attended school in Mankato. A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He married Fanchon Fischer on Jan. 24, 1953, in St. Paul. He had been employed at Deike Trucking as a driver and later as office manager. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 950. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, growing flowers and tomatoes, reading and World War II history.
Mr. Bengtson is survived by one brother and his wife, Lee “Nick” and Mavis, of Mankato; two sisters, Violet “Vi” Heyn of Rapidan and Phyllis Hill of La Mesa, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers and two sisters.
