In March of 1776, Bedford Co, VA native, Henry Burnley enlisted in the Army of the United States, fifth regiment of the VA line. He was in for two years, joined General Washington at White Marsh, PA and was discharged at Valley Forge. He went to Charlotte Co, VA where he married Lucy Barksdale Davenport on July 13, 1782; then to Greene Co, GA; Warren Co, GA and lived the last ten years of his life in Columbia Co, GA.
The Colonial Library in Va has his commissioning papers, one signed by Alexander Hamilton and the other by Thomas Jefferson.
