INDIANAPOLIS – Benjamin Jacob Rogers, age 22, of Indianapolis, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013 in Indianapolis. Born on June 26, 1991 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Charles K. and Julie A. (McCarty) Rogers. Benjamin graduated from New Palestine High School in 2009. He received a Firefighter Level 2 certification in Fire Science from Ivy Tech and was currently a senior at IUPUI studying Construction Management.
Benjamin worked for Marsh Supermarkets in Greenfield and New Palestine for 3 years, where he was promoted to Frozen Foods Manager in August of this year. He also served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT for Sugar Creek Township Fire Department. He was a member of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association and attended Brookville Road Community Church in New Palestine. Benjamin was an extremely talented musician, who loved playing the guitar, piano, and trumpet and was a bugler in Boy Scouts. His athletic interests included soccer, football, cross country, track, diving, and basketball.
Surviving Benjamin are his parents, Charles and Julie Rogers of New Palestine; sister, Rachel and brother-in-law Ryan Pyles of Greenfield; brother, Charles "Joey" Rogers of Indianapolis; and grandparents, Mary and Larry McCarty of New Palestine, and Marjorie Rogers of Terre Haute. His grandfather, Charles C. Rogers, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 1, from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Brookville Road Community Church, 7480 U.S. 52, New Palestine. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at 6:00 p.m. at the church. Pastor Hubert Nolan will be officiating. Friends and family will meet at the church on Monday, December 2, at 1:00 p.m. for a funeral procession to New Palestine Cemetery in New Palestine, where burial will take place. Arrangements are being handled by Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory in Greenfield.
