Mrs. Ruby Alene Howard Knox, age 83, of Blackshear, died Wednesday afternoon (11/27/13) at her residence following an extended illness.

Mrs. Knox was born February 4, 1931 in Waycross, GA to the late Bertice D. and Evelyn Fulgham Howard. As a young woman, she married William Warren Knox and moved to Norfolk, VA where she lived for 41 years before moving to Rosemead, NC. for 19 years. She moved to Blackshear in 2011. She was the executive secretary for Pepsi Cola in Norfolk for 19 years, and had worked at several banks during her career. She was a Past President of the National Secretaries Association.

She was a member of Larnchmont Methodist Church in Norfolk, VA where she was the Superintendent of the Children's Ministry. She then moved her membership to Mars Hill Baptist Church in North Carolina. Upon moving to Blackshear, she became a member of First United Methodist of Blackshear.

Mrs. Knox had a deep and abiding love of God and family. She also loved children and the elderly and loved to visit and send letters and cards to them for comfort and to lift their spirits.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Howard.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, William Warren Knox, of Blackshear; her son, Warren Keith Knox of Ocracoke Island, N.C.; her sisters: Bettie Keen and Cathy Smith (husband Joel), both of Waycross; 2 brothers: Carl Howard (wife Geneva) of Valdosta and Franklin Howard (wife Elaine) of Waycross; several special cousins: Jean Hickox, Georgia Mae Courson, Wyvonnie Geiger, Dale Harper, and Mary Kathryn Bishop; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
