After the academy, he had the following assignments throughout his career: They were the Central District, Traffic/Control Section, 3rd, Mobile Reserve Section, 4th, and the Traffic Safety Division. When Officer Schovanez retired on September 27, 1979, he had completed 25.42 years of faithful and dedicated service to the department.
Officer Schovanez was also a veteran of the United States Navy and achieved the rank of 3rd Class Petty Officer.
It should be noted that his wife, Dorothy E. Schovanez, DSN 1435, was also a retired police officer with the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
Private services were held at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery on November 27, 2013.
