Anna Dinkins Burgess, 99, departed this life on Sunday, November 24, 2013, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter. Born on November 10, 1914, in Rembert, she was the daughter of the late Galloway Dinkins and Janie Chestnut Dinkins. She received her early childhood education in the public schools of Sumter County.

Anna, affectionately known as "Dounchy", accepted Christ at an early age and joined Rafting Creek Baptist Church, and later Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Before her illness, she was an active and faithful member of Greater Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Missionary Ministry and the Senior Gospel Choir of which she enjoyed traveling and singing her favorite songs.

Anna was united in marriage to her beloved late husband, John Burgess, Sr. This union was blessed with four daughters and two sons. She loved and cherished her family.

She leaves to cherish his memories: four daughters, Inez Kennedy of Dalzell, Annie B. Cunningham (Willie) of Lugoff, Bessie Burgess of Rembert, Clark Baker (Moses) of Indian Head, MD; one son, James Burgess of Washington, DC; one sister, Margaret Williams (Herman) of New York, NY; a special grandson, Ronald C. Burgess of Meridan, CT; five granddaughters; six grandsons; several great-grandchildren; a special niece and caregiver, Mary Davis Sanders; a special nephew, Harry Marshall; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends who admired and loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by one son, John Jr.; one granddaughter, Inez Bernadine Kennedy Scriven; two grandsons, John F. Kennedy and Moses Deon Baker.

Funeral services: Greater Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, 609 Miller Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Marvin Hodge, pastor, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Michael Richburg, Bishop Jeffrey Johnson, Pastor Marie Sanders and Evangelist Frances Miller
