Raymond Eugene Cheser, age 84, of Beechland Road, Springfield, passed away at 2 a.m., Sunday, May 30, 2010 at his home. A native of Washington County, he was born on March 22, 1926 to the late Redmon and Lizzie Catherine Curtsinger Cheser. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and a retired farmer.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Evelyn Thompson Cheser on Sept. 18, 2008. Survivors include his daughter, Anna Margaret Cocanougher and her husband, Tony of Springfield; two grandchildren, Sherri Ann Simpson and her husband, David Lynn of Louisville and Jacob Michael Cocanougher and his wife, Kayla of Springfield; and a great-granddaughter, Allison Nicole Simpson.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 2 at Carey & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Hank Heschle, pastor of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Kelvin Dennis, Leon Lewis, Carl Lewis, Johnnie Simpson, Charlie Raymond and Fred Benham. Casket bearers were Jacob Cocanougher, David Lynn Simpson, Willie Cheser, Frankie Hooper, Michael Hood and Randy Thompson. Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
