Obituary, Contra Costa Times (Walnut Creek, CA), 3 Dec 2013:
Ludell Deutscher Dec. 7, 1927 - Nov. 25, 2013
Resident of Lafayette Ludell passed away in her home on November 25, 2013. She was the eldest daughter of Lewis and Della Larson, born in Berkeley, California on December 7, 1927. She grew up in Oakland and attended Mills College where she began her life long career as an artist. Upon her marriage to Irvin they moved to the East Bay where they raised their family. At that time she became involved in the Walnut Creek Civic Arts Program. She worked as a teacher/program coordinator for the Ceramics Department for many years. Later she moved to Benicia where she continued her art and associated with many members in the artist community there. There she became a sculptor in ceramics, metal and paper. She also enjoyed painting and writing both poetry and short stories. Eventually she moved to Lafayette where she lived with her beloved dog Pepe. She also loved and felt very connected to nature and especially enjoyed hiking in the high Sierra mountains and spending time by the ocean.
Ludell will be missed by her surviving family, her children Kathy, Clifford (Colleen) and David Deutscher, her grandchildren Stephanie (Chris) Ybarra, Chelsea (David) Deutscher Stangl and Graham Deutscher, and her great grandchildren Jocelyn and Dominic Ybarra. She is also survived by her sister Ardene Andrews and her sons Gordon and Carl Andrews. The entire family wishes to express sincere thanks to all the care givers who provided kind and compassionate assistance and companionship to Ludell during recent times. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make a donation to your favorite charity in Ludell's memory.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Walnut Creek Unitarian Church, 55 Eckley Lane on Saturday, December 7, 2013, 10.00 am.
