YAKIMA - Karen Joy Hood of Yakima, was called to her eternal rest on September 11, 2005.
Karen was born in Quincy, WA on June 15, 1962 to Marlen and Darlene Rieker.
She attended Grace Lutheran Christian Day School for 8 years, Lewis & Clark Jr. High and graduated in 1980 from AC Davis High School.
After completion of the Dental Assistant Program while attending high school, she worked in Dr. Carbery's dental office.
Karen met John Hood August 23, 1978. They were marred October 10, 1981. In 1983, she and John moved to Wenatchee, WA, where he worked as a railroad engineer for BN. His job brought him back to Yakima in 1989.
Karen was a fulltime homemaker, gave piano lessons at Grace Lutheran School, and developed a very large Avon clientele over the last few years and thoroughly enjoyed it. That experience turned out to be more of a social job than work to her. More so than Avon, she enjoyed coffee mornings with her friends, holidays with friends and family, her son's baseball games, reading, playing games or just simply talking with her kids.
Karen was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. She took a very active role in the Christian Day School and was one of the church organists.
She is survived by her husband, John and 5 children, Jonathan, Ashley, Ethan, Kameron and Alexa. Karen is also survived by her parents, Marlen and Darlene Rieker; her brother, Ronald E. Rieker, his wife Connie, and 2 nephews, David, his wife Tiphany and her great nephew, Braydon, and Adam Rieker. Also, her two uncles, Norm and Robert (Lorry) Suckow and very special friends, Gayle and Ken Schwartz and Jim and Patti Bolm. Among her survivors are numerous other close relatives and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Gordon Rieker in 1995, 2 sets of grandparents, Herman and Martha Rieker and Marvin and Viola Suckow. Visitation is September 15, 2005 from Noon to 8:00 pm at Keith & Keith. A Christian funeral service will be held at 3:00 on Friday, September 16, 2005 at Grace Lutheran Church, 1207 Cornell Ave in Yakima. Burial and concluding services will be at Terrace Heights Memorial Park, Yakima, WA. Arrangements are in the care of Keith & Keith Funeral Home.
