Marion Monroe Simmons, age 68, passed away Jul 10, 2010 at his home in Bonifay, FL. Monroe was an avid Florida Gator and Bonifay Blue Devils fan, and member of Woodmen of the World, Lodge 883. Monroe was retired from the Florida Dept. of Corrections, and presently employed part-time at the Holmes Co. Jail. He was born Aug 18, 1941 in Holmes Co., FL, to the late John Robert and Allie B. Gilley Simmons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Nancy Simmons; a brother John Junior "Catfish" Simmons; and brothers-in-law, Lacy Etheridge and William O. "Bill" Gilley.

Monroe is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jeanette Simmons; 2 sons, James Monroe Moore & wife Gail of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, children Jessica and Alex, and grandson Xander, and Marion Allen Moore of Niceville and children Ross and Shelby, and grandson Miles; 3 daughters, Cheryl Whitaker, husband Mark and children Vslrb snd Miranda, Cynthia Goodson, husband Michael, children Brandon, Bradley, Leslie, Madison and Traver, and granddaughter Naomi, Susan Simmons and children Christopher, Savannah, and Sierra; brother, Robert Earl Simmons and wife Judy of Brierfield, AL; sisters, Mary Nell Etheridge and Martha Gilley, both of Bonifay, FL, and Pearlie Mae Cates and husband Jerry of Dayton, TN; sister-in-law Margaret Simmons; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Funeral services were held at Shady Grove Baptist Church on Jul 14, 2010 with Rev. Johnnie Bradshaw and Rev. Tim Hall officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Sims Funeral Home in Bonifay, FL officiating.
