Joe Lee was born April 4, 1939 in the Mulberry Community of Fannin County, Texas, the son of Albert Sidney Underwood and Myrtle Mae Burk Underwood. He attended the Ravenna schools. Joe Lee was a US Army veteran and also served in the US Army National Guard. He married Maria Arcelia Gomez on June 4, 1990 in Bonham, Texas. Joe Lee was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Bonham and loved gospel and country music and his Chihuahuas. He was a retired plumber. Joe Lee was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Albert J. Underwood, Homer Glenwood Underwood, Max Underwood and Milton Ray Underwood.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Arcelia Underwood of Savoy, Texas; son, Joseph "Joey" Underwood of Jacksonville, Florida; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth "Libby" McCreight of Jefferson, Indiana and Diana Lee "DeeDee" Underwood of Tucson, Arizona; five sisters, Hazel Gooch of Dallas, Texas, Nadine Adams Walters of Howe, Texas, Maxine West of Bonham, Texas, Lyna Mae Pinkston of Anna, Texas, and Myrtle Faye Hughes of Sadler, Texas; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
