He was born in January 1831 as Pieter Bult in the dune village Wimmenum, in the western part of the Dutch western province Noord-Holland, son of the 42 years aged farmer Arie Bult and Neeltje Heerik [should be: Havik, about 22 years aged].
His father signed Pieter's birth certificate (geboorteakte) very neatly with "A bult".

The 22 years aged farmer (landman) Pieter Bult married on Sunday 17 July 1853 in Wimmenum to the two years older Petronella Margaretha de Wit, daughter of the watermiller (watermolenaar) Albert de Wit and Dieuwertje Schoon.

They had the following children:
* Arie Bult, born 28 July 1853 in Wimmenum, died February 1880 in the USA;
* Albert Bult, 17 May 1855, Wimmenum, d. about 1857;
* Neeltje (Nellie) Bult, 26 February 1857, Wimmenum, d. 23 May 1944, Lansing, Cook County, Illinois. She married George Eenigenburg.;
* Albert Bult, 1 December 1858, Wimmenum; d. 2 December 1916 in Chicago, Illinois, USA;
* Pieter Bult, December 20, 1861, Wimmenum, d. March 20, 1948, Chicago;
* Dieuwertje (Delia) Bult, 5 April 1864, Wimmenum;
* Frans (Frank) Bult, 27 June 1865, Wimmenum;
* Hendrik (Henry) Bult, 8 January 1867, Wimmenum, d. 1926, USA;

Pieter Bult was in 1857 and 1858 a farmer (landman), in 1864, 1865 and 1867 a laborer, living with his family in Wimmenum.

Peter Bult (36, labourer), his wife Peternella (38), their children Aris (13), Nultje (10), Albert (8), Pieter (6), Deeswertze (3), Frans (2) and Hendrick (5 months) arrived on 7 August 1867 on the ship Villa Franca, which departed from London, England, at the port of New York.

In 1870 Peter Bolt (38 years old, born in Holland), his wife Petergy (40, Holland), their children Henry [should be: Arie] (16, Holland), Nellie (13, Holland), Albert (11, Holland), Peter (8, Holland), Delia (6, Holland), Frank (5, Holland), Henry (3, Holland) and Petergy (1, Illinois) were living in Illinois, USA, very probably in or near Chicago.

In June 1880 Peter Bault (49, Holland, market gardener), his wife Nellie (50, Holland), their children Albert (21, Holland, iron founder, ijzergieter), Delia (16, Holland), Henry (13, Holland), Mary (11, Illinois), Aggie (8, Illinois) and Sarah (6, Illinois) lived at Wabash Avenue, Hyde Park, south Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

Peter Bult died in July 1895 in Chicago at the age of 64 years. His widow Petronella died there too, in January 1898 at the age of 69 years.
