Nancy Gail (Flynn) Heard was born on July 16, 1947 in Shenandoah, Iowa; the daughter of Willard and Thelma (Crist) Flynn. Nancy entered into heaven on March 9, 2009 at the age of 61 years, 7 months, and 23 days.

Nancy attended Shenandoah Community Schools and graduated with the Class of 1965. After graduation she attended and graduated from Stewart Beauty School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. On September 10, 1971 she was united in marriage to Larry Heard at the First Baptist Church in Shenandoah. To this union was born a daughter Stacy and a son Jason.

For nearly 40 years Nancy has been a beautician in Shenandoah. Throughout her life she was much more of a giver than a taker. She was extremely devoted to her family and friends. In her community she helped with the First Baptist Church May Breakfast and was also a volunteer at the Shenandoah Food Pantry. She was always there when anybody was in need.

Nancy is fondly remembered in this community as the "Halloween Witch" of 1000 Sunset Blvd. She brought joy to trick-or-treaters for the past 10 years, after taking over her mother's Halloween tradition of 40 years. However, her most cherished role was that of being "Nana" to her three beautiful grandchildren.

Preceding Nancy in death were her parents Willard and Thelma Flynn.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Larry of Shenandoah, daughter Stacy Kuker and husband Troy of Bellevue and son Jason Heard of Shenandoah; 3 grandchildren; Logan Flynn, Brady Matthew and Kennedy Lane Kuker; 2 double cousins Donna and Barbara; several aunts, uncles, other relatives, and many, many friends.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Shenandoah with Rev. Gary Fuller officiating. Pat Perkins attended to the memorial register while Connie Berrier and Sharon Stribling cared for the flowers. Jeff Slater and Daniel Cooper served as ushers. Special music for the service included "To Where You Are", "Wind Beneath My Wings" and "I'll Fly Away". Casket Bearers were Billy Worl, John Morey, Dave Morey, Tom Berrier, Richard Perkins, Mike Flynn and Nick Rengstorf. Honorary Casket Bearers included Junior Taylor and Rick Meisinger. Burial followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery. A luncheon, served by the Memorial Baptist Women followed the graveside services.
