Obituary for Martha Adams

Martha Ann Morton Adams was born to the union of Joseph Morton, Sr. and Annie Pearl Gooden Morton on August 9, 1944, in Milton, Florida.

She confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized under the leadership of Elder J. J. Riley and was united with Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church.

She was a graduate of T. R. Jackson High School Class of 1963. While attending T. R. Jackson, she was a member of the T. R. Jackson High School Band and Chorus. She was also a member of the Oratorical Society and Future Homemakers of America.

After high school, Martha earned a certificate in data processing and keypunch. She later attended Pensacola Junior College where she studied computer science. Martha was employed with the City of Milton, becoming its first minority employee.

On September 6, 1963, she was joined in Holy Matrimony to John Hendry Adams, Jr. To this union, one son, Kirkland Lamar Adams, was born.

Martha enjoyed her life to the fullest. Her life was enriched by the love she shared with her beloved husband, John, son, Kirk, her grandchildren and family. They meant everything to her. Martha was an accomplished seamstress and she enjoyed cooking and photography as well.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving and devoted husband, John Henry Adams, Jr. and one son, Kirkland Lamar Adams, both of Milton, FL; one stepson, John Bernard Adams of Portland, OR; two brothers, Joseph Morton, Jr. (Sondra) of Jacksonville, FL and Maurice Morton of Milton, FL; a Sister-in-Law, Patsy Johnson of Milton, FL; three grandsons, Kirkland Lamar Adams, Jr. of Brandon, FL, Christopher Joseph Adams of Fort Walton Beach, FL and John Kirkland Adams of Milton, FL; two great granddaughters, Nina Marie Adams of Brandon, FL and Zanaivia Adams of Fort Walton Beach, FL; one aunt, Janet Gooden of Milton, FL; Deborah Minnick of Milton, FL who was like a daughter, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Her special friends include: Billy Jean James, Nellie Ruth Johnson, Margie Galloway, Gleta Green and Virginia Proctor.
