Esther Mitchell, of Wickenburg died Sept 12 in Phoenix. She was 79.

Mrs. Mitchell was born March 11, 1916 in Dos Cabazes.

She was the youngest of 10 children born to James and Rose Deck, both who are buried in the Garcia Cemetery. The family moved to Wickenburg in 1920 and her father served in the position of night marshall from 1920 to 1927.

Mrs. Mitchell attended Wickenburg public schools and graduated from Wickenburg High School in 1934. She married Sam Doom of Kuttawa, Ky. in 1940 and lived in Phoenix until 1951 when the family moved to Congress to start a service station business.

The Doom family were well-known residents in the Congress area, where Mrs. Mitchell was active in the community and church affairs. Her children attended Wickenburg High School, where her oldest son Dan Doom has been an instructor and coach since 1968.

In 1965 the family sold the service station business in Congress and moved to Kentucky with the three youngest children while the three eldest children remained in Arizona. Mrs. Mitchell remained active in community affairs until her husband's death in 1974.

In 1975 she married Lonnie Mitchell of Cadiz, Ky. In 1985, she and her husband moved to Congress and later to Wickenburg. She was a member of the Congress Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Lonnie, of Wickenburg; sister Rose Garcia of Northridge, Calif; daughter and son-in-law Lottie and Ted Lopez of Phoenix; sons and daughters-in-law Dan and Pat Doom of Wickenburg, Sam and Vicki Doom of Scottsdale, Dennis and Cheryll Doom of Tempe, Don and Maria Doom of Chandler, and Robert and Colleen Doom of San Clemente, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services have been held with burial in the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery. The Rev. George Thorton officiated.

Arrangements were handled by Brown's Wickenburg Funeral Home.
