Alice, Texas – The Reverend Joe E. Love, 86, passed away in an Alice nursing home on Thursday morning, July 23, 2009. Pastor Love was born in Cameron, Texas, January 20, 1923, to Joe Edgar Love and Abye (Price) Love. He married Anita Wedel on September 12, 1943.
After graduating from Baylor University in 1945, he attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and began his career as a Baptist minister. He led churches in Columbus, Houston, and finally Alice, Texas (First Baptist Church, where he pastored for 25 years). After retirement from First Baptist in 1987, he served as pastor for various area churches including Agua Dulce, Falfurrias, Cornerstone in Alice and Miranda City. He loved the Lord, God's Word, and ministering. He also enjoyed woodworking, making golf clubs, and playing golf.
Pastor was survived by his wife of 65 years, Anita; son, Paul David (and wife Joanna) Love of Sugarland, TX; daughter, JoNita (and husband Jerry) Adams of Killeen, TX; sister, Joyce Ann (and husband John) Heiman of Rockwall, TX; six grandchildren: Chris Love, Amanda Smith, Joellen Busby, Shauna Potts, Danielle Stedman, Ashleigh Pettijohn, their spouses; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2009. Funeral services were Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Alice, and were conducted by Ross Dudney Jr. with Van Hilliard assisting. Burial followed in Alice Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to South Texas Children's Home in Beeville, Texas, or to the charity of your choice. All arrangements were entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, Incorporated.
