Enlisted in New Hanover County, NC November 11, 1861 for twelve months in the Second Regiment North Carolina Artillery, 1st Company C (Originally known as "Cape Fear Light Artillery" and later "Cummings Battery". Present or accounted for until transferred to Company C, 13th Battalion Light Artillery November 4, 1863. Present or accounted for in that battery through February, 1865. Appears on the role of men paroled at Greensboro, NC May 1, 1865 with the remark: "Deserted March 1, 1865."
