Nick Begier, 81, died Tuesday, February 12, 1963, at a Norfolk Hospital after a two week illness.

Funeral services were 3:00 p.m., Friday, February 15, at Wausa Methodist Church. The Rev. John Minert officiated. Pallbearers were Allen Wakeley, Francis Anderson, Alburn Koockman, Alva Smith, Wayne Parsons and Daylon Schmeckpeper. Burial was in the Crofton Cemetery, Crofton, Nebraska.

Nicolaus Begier was born May 7, 1881, in Burg, Fehmarn, Germany, the son of Nicolaus and Martha (Springfeldt) Begier. He married Agnes Suckstorf on June 7, 1902, in Fehmarn, Germany, and together came to the United States to Thurston County, Nebraska, in 1903, and later moved to Cedar County in 1910. Agnes Begier died October 22, 1941. In 1960, he moved to Wausa to live his daughter and son-in-law.

Surviving are two sons, Henry Begier of Hartington and Nick Begier of Norfolk; two daughters, Martha (Frank) Bruns of Bloomfield and Emma (Arthur) Johnson of Wausa; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one son, Fred Begier.

Notes: Nicolaus Gerhard Karl Begier was born May 7, 1881 in Burg, Fehmarn, an island off the northern coast of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

His parents were Nicolaus Hinrich Friedrich and Martha (Springfeldt) Begier. He married Agnes Margaretha Suchsdorf on June 7, 1902 in Albertsdorf, Fehmarn. They had one son, Heinrich, while in Germany. The family came to the United States to Knox County, Nebraska in 1903.

Nicolaus used the name Nick during his lifetime. His gravestone has "Nick H." on it.
