Margaret is the daughter of Joseph Rexel Bachman and Elizabeth Stanford Goddard Bachman. She grew up in Ogden, Utah and Denver, Colorado. She graduated from Ogden High School and Weber State. Margaret married David Handy in the Logan Temple.

Margaret loved being a homemaker, providing for her family. She was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and held many callings in the Relief Society. She also enjoyed doing stake genealogy and served at the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum.

Margaret and David lived many places because of his career. They lived in Utah, Oregon, Idaho, Washington State, and Minneapolis. They returned to Utah to be near family.

Margaret was skilled at knitting and needlepoint. She made Christmas stockings, sweaters, afghans, slippers, and dish cloths. She enjoyed reading, cooking, church, University of Washington football games, supporting her sons in their sports, and traveling. She volunteered at the polls, and was a member of the Chareya Club and served as a Pink Lady at the old Dee Hospital.

At the time of her passing, she was survived by her three sons, eight grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren with two on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one grandchild, one great-grandchild, and her loving husband of 48 years.
