Verlyn Carol “Soad” Sims of Monett, MO, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, MO.

He was born August 19, 1932 in Cassville, MO the son of Matt and Opal {Hopkins} Sims. On February 20, 1956 in Cassville he was united in marriage to Dorothy June Moore, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Terry Didelot and her husband Russ of Taylors, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Ben Didelot and his wife Jessica and Matt Didelot and his wife Tara; two great grandchildren, Madalyn June “Maddie” and Bennett William and close cousins, Max and Carolyn Easley.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Matt and Opal Sims and four brothers.

Soad grew up in the Corinth Community, attended Horner grade school and graduated from Cassville High School in 1950. He later attended Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield and graduated in 1959. During the Korean War he served in the United States Air Force. For several years he was employed as a computer executive serving in sales and marketing with IBM Corporation. He was President of Commerce General Corporation and Parts Data Systems of Memphis, TN. Later he served as managing director of Tridex Systems and was based in London, England. Fifteen years ago, he moved from South Carolina to Monett to make his home. He was a member of Monett United Methodist Church. Some of his favorite pastimes were dealing in investments and the stock market. He also loved yard work and gardening, especially tomatoes.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to caretakers Tammy Starchman and Glenna Brown who loved and cared for “Pop” and are still performing their same professional and tender services for June.

Graveside services were held on Friday, December 4, 2020 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cassville. Reverend Robert Bradow conducted the services.

Contributions may be made to Oak Hill Cemetery or Corinth Cemetery in memory of Soad.
