Bedford Marion McKenzie

GALVESTON—Bedford Marion McKenzie, 82, passed away on, Friday, February 28, 1997, at John Sealy Hospital. Memorial services will be held at 11 p.m., Monday, March 3,1997, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Galveston with Rev. Joseph DePaola, officiating. Friends may visit after services at Eaton Hall.

Born New Year's Eve, 1914, in Mangum, Oklahoma to Forest and Clara McKenzie, Bedford attended public schools in Mangum, Oklahoma. Graduating from high school, he attended The University of Oklahoma where he earned a B_A. degree in Education. During this time he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. He served has country in the US. Air Force in 1he 456th Bomb Squadron during W.WJI. Returning to school after the war he earned his Masters Degree in Education Administration fimm North Texas State University. Moving to Galveston in 1948, he became the Principal of Goliad Elementary School, later moving on to serve Galveston Independent School District as Asst. Superintendent and director of Personnel.

His love for his students led him to entertain them at every opportunity. His greatest pleasure was in seeing his kids smile. -Always active in civic affairs, Bedford served as President of Galveston Kiwanis and President of Family Services. He served as a member of the Advisory Board for the Salvation Army, the Board of Directors of the Galveston County Chapter of the American Bed Cross, the. Board of Directors of The Boys Club of America and a member of the Board of Directors of the United Way. He was current president of The Exchange Club. Bedford's professional affiliations included membership in Phi Delta Kappa, an honorary educational fraternity; Texas State Teacher's Assn.; Life member of the Texas PTA and Texas Association of School Administrators. He was a dedicated member of Trinity Episcopal Church earlier serving as a member of the Vestry.

Preceded in death by his parents Bedford is survived by his wife, Doris McKenzie of Galveston, sons, Bedford Michael McKenzie and wife, Phyllis of Santa Fe and Robert Marion McKenzie and wife, Debbie of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; grandchildren, Cindy Marie McKenzie, Christopher Marion McKenzie, Emmanuel Michael McKenzie, Marion Carol McKenzie, Michael McKenzie, distal and Celeste Kennelly, Nina Joy and Anna Marie McKenzie; sister, Pat HaH of Dallas; nephews, Mac and Rex Hall; sister-in-law, Anna Marie Carmignani, and a host of oilier relatives and friends.
