Charles William Cherry, 67 of Oak Harbor, OH went to be with the Lord Friday, November 22, 2013 at the Cleveland Clinic following a lifelong struggle with cystic fibrosis. Chuck was born November 11, 1946 in Sandusky, OH to Mary C. (Landoll) and Franklin E. Cherry. He grew up in Huron, OH and attended St. Peter Church and School. He graduated from Huron High School in 1965. In 1970 he married the former Linda M. Gardner at St. John's United Church of Christ in Genoa, OH. They moved to Oak Harbor in 1971 and lived on Locust Street for 24 years, where Linda taught Art at the High School for 30 years. While in High School, Chuck worked at McDonalds in Sandusky, OH. Following High School he went to work for Sandusky Foundry and Machine Company as a draftsman. Later, for Standard Products Company in Port Clinton, OH as a tooling engineer. He finished his career at the National Machinery Company in Tiffin, OH retiring in 2001 due to health reasons after 22 years of service. He enjoyed and loved each and every place he worked. In 1977, Chuck joined the Oak Harbor Police Auxiliary. He went to police school, graduated and has remained a certified peace officer to this day. He volunteered countless hours to the Village of Oak Harbor helping for celebrations, sporting events, parades, patrolling the streets and a few calamities. He was also a member of Elk's Lodge #1718 in Port Clinton, OH. When he could, Chuck loved boating, fishing and playing cards with his friends. His parents, wife Linda, brothers-in-law: Richard Gardner, Donald Gardner, and sister-in-law Ruth D'Clute preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother Donald and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-7pm with a Parish Wake Service to begin at 7pm at the Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 10am at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Oak Harbor with the Rev. Timothy Farris celebrant. Burial will be in Clay Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, St. Boniface Catholic Church, or the Oak Harbor Police Auxiliary.
