SAM DOWER DIED MONDAY –
Samuel Dower, Prominent Wadena Business Man, Died
Samuel J. Dower, for more than thirty-five years one of Wadena city’s leading and most influential business men, died at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester on December 17th. He was taken seriously ill while spending a few months in California and was rushed to Rochester in November where he submitted to a serious operation. He seemed to rally for a few days following the operation, but complications set in and the end came Monday of this week.
Deceased was for a great many years secretary-treasurer of the Dower Lumber Co., one of the largest retail companies operating line yards in the state of Minnesota. Last year the Dower company, composed of John Dower, president; W.H. Whipple, vice president and Samuel J. Dower, secretary-treasurer, sold their interests in the company which they founded to the Lambert Lumber Co. and deceased had been taking a well earned rest and he and Mrs. Dower had gone to California last fall to spend the winter.
Deceased was born in Michigan, May 22, 1866 but came to Minnesota when a youth and had since resided in this state, for the past forty years in Wadena county. Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church in Wadena Thursday afternoon, Rev. J.E. Jansen, Pastor, officiating.
In the death of Sam Dower, Wadena city and county loses one of its foremost citizens; a man who has helped so many worthwhile projects for the achievement of this section of the state.
