He was born April 7, 1929, in Gloster,Ms. to Rev. Delos H. Cassels and Ida Bryant Cassels.
He was educated in the Gloster schools and excelled in all sports. "Hoot" played football for one season at Southwest Mississippi Junior College before being called into the army, where he was the company clerk in the 4063rd Mash unit in Korea.
After military service, "Hoot" returned to Gloster where he farmed, and raised cattle and trees, until a stroke disabled him in 1998. "Hoot" was an avid golfer and was known for his "Hootisms" by his fellow golfers.
Mr. Cassels was a lifelong member of Union Methodist Church and for the last fourteen years watched the Galloway U.M.C. in Jackson on T.V.
He especially enjoyed watching Ole Miss and Mississippi State football games. Since recently having moved to Lake Dixie Springs, he enjoyed watching hummingbirds from his front porch and enjoyed the outdoors. He especially enjoyed looking out at the beautiful lake as he had his morning coffee and was anticipating hosting his whole family on Christmas night as he had done many years before at the old plantation home place in Gloster.
He is survived by: Brother, Milton C. Cassels and his wife Anna Laura of Baton Rouge,La.; Nephew and special caregivers, Cassels Wilson and his wife Debbie, and Great-Nephews: Todd Wilson and Nic Wilson.
Numerous other nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give thanks to two other special caregivers, Shirley Jarrell and Annette Standford.
Mr Cassels was preceded in death by: His Parents, Rev. Delos Cassels and Ida Bryant Cassels.
Brothers: Bryant Fielding Cassels and wife Ethlyn, Quayle Cassels and wife Aline, David Cassels and wife Montez and Wilson Cassels and wife Lyndell.
Sisters: Mary Cassels, Sella Allen and husband Johnny, Alice Butler and husband Earl, Lyndall Larson, and Ottomese Wilson and husband Bernard.
