Connie May Horton, 62, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013. Graveside service: 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, in DFW National Cemetery. Connie May Horton, 62, loving mother, grandmother and sister, died peacefully on Nov. 16, 2013, in Arlington. Connie was born on Sept. 28, 1951, to the late Leonard Horton Sr. and Billie Jean Whinery Horton Thorp in Oklahoma City, Okla. She was raised in Mesquite, where she attended schools and graduated from Mesquite High School in 1969. She was active in many extra-curricular activities and excelled as a gifted student, participating in the National Honor Society. She was also active in the band, playing clarinet. After high school, Connie enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, completing basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio. After basic training, she was assigned to the Strategic Air Command (SAC) at Offutt AFB, Omaha, Neb., and later Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage, Alaska. After her military service, she returned to Oklahoma working in finance and legal administration at a local law firm. In 1986, she returned to the Metroplex, settling in Arlington. Connie was an avid lover of music and was a gifted pianist. Her escape was often in the music she loved, including classical rock, blues and even light rap. She was multilingual, fluent in at least four different languages. She was a gifted cook, in the process of writing a cookbook. Her family will always recall her "unconditional love" toward them. She was a lifelong animal lover, and especially devoted to her granddog, Bella. Survivors: Son, Gary Foreman; granddaughter, Mairi Faith; and siblings, Leonard Horton Jr., Elizabeth Horton McBride, Donald Thorp, Noma Thorp White and Tonya Thorp Moore.
