Thelma Gygi Aylett, age 96, passed away of a brain aneurysm on March 14, 2013. Born April 24, 1916 to Rudolph and Liesetta Riedelbaugh Gygi. She was the last leaf on the tree-last of the original Gygi Family. Married Orgill Edgar (Aggie) Aylett, May 28, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple; later divorced.
Grew up in Midvale and Salt Lake City. Graduated from South High School. Worked for Distinctive Catering, South High School, and Dr. N. Branson Call. Active member of the LDS Church serving in all the organizations. Thelma was known for her love of learning and spelling. She led the spelling bee at Chateau Brickyard for over ten years; she had a great love for music. Her favorite past-times were reading the newspaper, completing crossword puzzles, and writing letters and notes to her friends and family. She had an endearing love for her Savior and a strong testimony of His gospel.
Preceded in death by daughter, Lorene Aylett, son-in-law, Tom Ellison, parents, 11 siblings and their spouses. Survived by daughter-Maureen Ellison (Cameron Godfrey); son-Jess Aylett (Barbara); granddaughters- Erin Oldroyd (Jaysen), Emily Anderson (Robbie), Elisa Harless (David), Kate Crump (Brady) and Chelsea Thompson (Kyle); grandsons-Justin Memmott, Ethan Aylett (Sara), Nick Aylett (Emily), Scott Aylett, and Elder Michael Aylett serving in the Virginia Richmond mission: 12 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The service will be at Larkin Sunset Lawn chapel, 2450 East 1300 South on Saturday, March 23, at 11:00 a.m.; visitation from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Verbal, written or musical tributes may be shared at the service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund. Celebrate her life by remembering the time spent with her and look forward to seeing her again when the time comes for us to follow.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the employees at Chateau Brickyard, Spring Creek Health Care, and Highland Care Center.
