Warren Slaven, 72, of Rt. 1, Oneida, passed away suddenly early Friday morning, July 2, 1993 at the Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. Born May 14, 1921, he was the son of the late Cul Slaven and the late Melzuria Slaven. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, retiring in 1961 with 22 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Erika Tobleck Slaven of Oneida; two sons: Royce Slaven and wife, Anita, and Randy Slaven and wife, Sammye, all of Cookeville; three grandchildren: Andrea and Royce Slaven of Kingston, and Nikki Slaven of Cookeville; two sisters: Ellen Lay and Vilda ("Bill") Sexton, both of Oneida; step-mother, Nora Slaven of Oneida; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Margaret Hale of Lead Hill, Arkansas. Several nieces, nephews and many other relatives survive also. Funeral services were conducted Monday July 5 at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Laxton officiating. Burial followed in the West Cemetery with full military honors provided by the United States Army Honor Guard of Fort Campbell, Ky.
