Thomas Collins was born in 1830 according to family records. His parents and town of birth are not known but he appears first in Woodbury. He married Lucy Ellen Drenan of Woodbury in about 1855. They had one child, a son James Drenan Collins, born in 1856 in Woodbury. Thomas volunteered for Civil War service at age 32, credited to Woodbury, to the 11th Vermont Infantry enlisting 8/13/62 as a Private in Company I. He died while in service to his country on 3/30/63 at age 33 at Fort Stevens. His body was transferred to Woodbury for burial.
