Obituary: Death of Well Known Resident
Rev. O. A. Chapin died at his residence in Bloomfield on Thursday evening the 9th instant. His death due probably to a complication of diseases, but the immediate cause was in the form of a short sharp attack from which his vital forces never rallied. For years Mr. Chapin had suffered from from some obscure physical trouble, which at times was very painful and by which he was greatly prostrated. The frequency and stringency of these attacks created in his mind the expectation of a fatal issue in no distant date. Hence he was fully prepared when such expectations were confirmed. He died as he had lived, in the faith of the Son of God, and in that "peace which they have whose minds stayed on God, trusting in him" He was pleasant and cheerful to everyone, kind and forgiving, and many are the sorrowing friends who now realize that he has gone away. Mr. Chapin was born August 8th 1836 in the village of Smyrnia, Madison Co. NY and came to this township many years ago. He as married March 30, 1859 to Sarah B. Range, who survives him. To them were born seven children, six of whom are living. The funeral of the deceased on Saturday was attended by a large concourse of friends of friends. The sermon was preached by Rev. Starkey between whom and the deceased a friendship had long existed like unto that of David and Jonathan.husband of Sarah B ----
