Carolyn Kay Adams, age 74, a resident of Elkins, passed away Tuesday morning, November 19, 2013 in the Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center. She was born August 2, 1939 at Rainelle, WV, a daughter of the late Lacy and Elizabeth Landrum Slaven. On August 29, 1984 at Oakland, MD she was married to H. Butch Adams who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Terrie E. McClung and Tammy S. Corcoran and husband John all of Elkins and Kay McClung of Mabie. One step-son, Chris Adams of Fairview, WV and three sisters-in-law, Joyce Slaven of Columbus, OH, Rita Slavin of Syracuse, OH and Marica Slaven of Grafton, WV. Five grandchildren, Tony McClung, Devin Knicely and Brandon Knicely, Chase Corcoran and Megan Adams Satow and three great grandchildren, Conor Knicely, Ryddar and Cyllie Satow also survive. Also preceding her in death were six brothers, John, Harry, Gene, Marvin, Maynard and Jackie Slaven and one sister, Rebecca Slaven. Carolyn was a graduate of Rainelle High School with the Class of 1957 and was a retired coal miner from Kitt Energy Mines of Philippi. She was also a homemaker and a former member of the Junior Woman's Club of Rupert, WV and the Democratic Committee. Friends may call from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, November 22, 2013 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, November 23rd from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Terry Lee McClung officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Care Corporation, PO Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520 or the Randolph County Cancer Support Group, PO Box 2361, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Mrs. Adams.
