John Ballard, age 58, of Oak Ridge, TN, went to be with the Lord December 10, 2008 after heart surgery complications. He was born January 11, 1950 in Newnan, GA.

John graduated from Howard High School in Chattanooga where he was a star football player. He was also a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He began his employment as an electrician with Union
Carbide Corporation and retired after 33 years from BMXT/Y-12 plant, both in Oak Ridge.

John attended Lomax Temple AME Zion Church in Knoxville. He was very active as a musician in many black churches, and involved in children's music ministry. A music enthusiast with a particular passion for jazz, John enjoyed his service on the Board of the Knoxville Museum of Art, the "Alive After Five Club," and as the coordinator and a presenter for "Jazz in the Park," in support of Freedom school in Oak Ridge.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Willie T. and Exxie Ballard and brother, Tony Husain Ballard. He is survived by his devoted wife of 22 years, Bobbie Ballard, sister Mary Alice Douglas of Chattanooga, 4 nephews, 5 step-grandchildren, 2 stepchildren, 12 great nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins, friends, and extended family who will all miss him dearly.

The funeral service will be held in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary, Monday, 6:30 PM with Dr. Jacquelyn O. Bragg officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 – 6:30 PM, Monday, December 15th. An online guest book may be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com
