John S. (perhaps Sylvester) Nall was born 3 December 1832, Williamson County, Tennessee, to William Nall and Isabell Laughlin Nall as the first of nine children.
In 1850 the family lived in Williamson County, Tennessee and was listed in the census as William Nall, 39, TN, farmer; Isabell, 42, NC; John, 17, TN, farmer; Lindon, 15, TN, farmer; Elizabeth, 12, TN; Joseph, 9, TN; Rufus, 7, TN; Mary, 4, TN; and Frances, 9/12, TN.
John Nall married Susan Sellars of Dickson County, 16 February 1854, Dickson County, Tennessee. She was born 10 October 1833 to John C. Sellars and Emillie Morris Sellars.
1858 Graves Co., KY, tax records show John S. Nall, no land listed, 1WM over age 21, 1 horse @$125, 2 cattle, 1 hog, total $125.
1859 Graves County, Kentucky tax records, J. S. Nall, listed 1WM over 21, 1 horse @$150, 3 cattle, 1300 pounds tobacco, 320 bushels corn, total $150.
1860 Graves County, Kentucky tax records , J. S. Nall, no land listed, 1 WM over 21, 3 horses, 6 cattle, 2 hogs, 3250 pounds tobacco, 500 bushels corn, 8 bushels wheat, $300 total.

1870 Susan Sellars Nall apparently died in August in Graves County.
The 1870 Graves County census for Haynes Precinct, Kansas, shows Nall, John, 38, Farmer, Tenn, real estate $1600, personal $1967; Susan, 37, Keep house, Tenn; David, 15, Work Farm, Tenn; Adeline, 13, at home, Tenn; John, 9, KY; James, 7, KY; Jerome, 5, KY; Nanie Belle 1 KY; and William, 59, Farmer, Tenn, personal $1250 (his father).
John Nall apparently married his late wife’s sister, Almarinda Sellars, 18 November 1870, according to family stories but no proof has been found. Almarinda Sellars was born 22 April 1846 to John S. Nall and Emillie Morris Sellars.

1913 Graves County, KY Newspaper Abstracts, Vol 39, by Simmons, Friday, Nov. 21, 1913, J. S. Nall, a prominent citizen of Folsomdale, is reported seriously ill of pneumonia and his recovery is doubtful.

Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1913, Graves County lost one of the oldest and best citizens in the death of John S. Nall, which occurred Monday evening at his home near Folsomdale. He was in his 82nd year and had been a citizen of the county for many years. Born and reared in Dickson County, Tenn., he came to Graves County, where he made a splendid citizen, a substantial and successful farmer and a man of high Christian character. The deceased was a member of the Baptist Church and had been married twice, his second wife surviving him. The children now living from his first matrimonial venture are Dave Nall, Mrs. W. A. Morris, John and Jim Nall of Graves County, and Mrs. Bob Torian, of Paducah. The surviving children from his second marriage are Robert and Ellis Nall, Mrs. Dr. M. E. Thomas, and Mrs. R. L. Elliott, all of Folsomdale, Mrs. D. D. Thompson, of Melber, and Mrs. V. E. Murphey of Columbus, Ky. Burial Wednesday at Liberty Church graveyard at Folsomdale.

Came to State in 1857 from his native State Tennessee. The funeral of J.S. Nall, age 82 years, who died Monday night at 7:20 o'clock, at his home near Folsomdale, Graves County, will be held this morning at 11 o'clock at the Liberty church at Folsomdale. Rev. A. H. Murphy will officiate. The burial will be in Liberty cemetery. His death was the result of general debility. Mr. Nall was born in central Tennessee, but came to Kentucky in 1857. He was a faithful member of the Baptist Church, which he joined when 21 years of age. Besides his second wife the deceased is survived by eleven children. They are J. W. Nall of Paducah; J. L. Nall of Mayfield; R. L. Nall, D. A. Nall, A. B.. Nall, Mrs. Adaline Morris, and Mrs. Lou Thomas of Folsomdale; Mrs. Lucilia Thompson of Melber; Mrs. Fannie Murphy of Columbus; Mrs. Pearl Elliott of Folsomdale; Mrs. Emile Torian of Paducah. Mr. Nall had a wide acquaintance and was an esteemed gentleman of the old school."
