Edward Joseph Hess, Jr., a resident of Wynne, Arkansas, departed this life, Thursday, November 21, 2013, in Searcy, Arkansas, at the age of eighty-nine. He was born on, January 11, 1924, in Wynne, the son of Edward Joseph, Sr. and Annie Biecker Hess. He married Miss Betty Ann Weindel on January 20, 1948.

He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, served in the US Navy during WWII, was also a former Justice of the Peace, member of the Knights of Columbus and Brushy Lake Drainage Commission. He was a self-employed farmer and welder. Edward enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, swimming, dancing, playing bingo, picking up pecans and eating watermelon. He had a heart that was bigger than he was and made a wonderful father, he will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Mr. Hess was preceded in death by his parents, one son: Gregory Hess, one daughter: Marsha Hess, two brothers: Otto Hess and Paul A. Hess, three sisters: Mona Skurat, Norma Hess, and Annette McGuire, one granddaughter: Courtney Hess.

Edward is survived by his wife of sixty-five years: Betty Hess of the home, five sons: Leon (Louise) Hess of Wynne, Arkansas, Ronnie (Patricia) Hess of Wynne, Arkansas, Kenny (Jeanie) Hess of Blytheville, Arkansas, Perry Hess of Wynne, Arkansas, Phillip (Heather) Hess of Wynne, Arkansas, two daughters: Jo Ann (Derald) Burmingham of Wynne, Arkansas, Cheryl (Butch) Chappell of Mountain Home, Arkansas, one brother: Tony Hess of Blytheville, Arkansas, three sisters: Ernestine Lindsey of Oklahoma, Jeanette Lisko of Little Rock, Arkansas, Doris Dalton of Memphis, Tennessee, 17 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 23, 2013, at the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Wynne. Interment will follow in Johnson Cemetery, also in Wynne. Visitation will be held, Friday evening from 5 till 7:00 p.m., with Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home chapel in Wynne. 870-238-9400
