Mary Harkness, 90, of Columbia Cross Roads, PA passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at the Bradford County Manor.

Mary Eloise Fleming was born on February 27, 1922 in Windfall, PA. She was a daughter of the late Clarence Joseph "CJ" and Neva (Landon) Fleming. Mary was a 1939 graduate of Troy High School.

On November 19, 1942, Mary and Harry Harkness were married at the East Canton Methodist Church. In 1949, they purchased the Harkness family dairy farm in Springfield Township. They raised three boys and were blessed with 66 years together before his passing on July 12, 2009.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed being busy. She will be lovingly remembered as an easy-going and quiet person who drew strength in life from her love of the Lord.

In younger years, Mary enjoyed bowling. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker.

Harry and Mary enjoyed traveling and visited Canada, Panama and saw most of the United States.

Mary was an active member and Sunday school teacher at the Faith Community United Methodist Church in Big Pond, PA. She was a Springfield Lady Rebekah member for over 50 years and a near 70-year member of the Beech Flats Grange. Mary also enjoyed working at the Springfield Twp. Elections Board.

Surviving are her children, Lyle (Ardith) Harkness of Columbia Cross Roads, Bruce (Sarita) Harkness of Raleigh, NC and Vaughn (Kathleen) Harkness of Columbia Cross Roads; seven grandchildren, Shawn (Vicki), Craig, Ryan (Cheri) Harkness, Marc and Leah Harkness, Sharri (Mike) Weed and Scott (Michelle) Harkness; six great grandchildren; Devon (Kelsey) Weed, Taren Harkness, Colton (Miriah) Harkness, Mariah Harkness, Ethan Harkness and Kate Edson Harkness; three great great grandchildren; Aiden, Ava and Peyton; many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and dear friends.

In addition to her husband Harry, Mary was predeceased by her great grandson, Logan Weed; a sister and three brothers, Daisy Hill, Frank, Pete and Donald Fleming.

The private services will be held at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Dr, Canton with Rev. Richard Noggle and Rev. Jasper Smith officiating.

Burial will follow in the Windfall Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, her family suggests your consideration of a memorial in Mary's name to the Faith Community U.M. Church.
