Burton James Gerhardt, 76, died Monday, April 21, 2008, at his home. He was born Oct. 17, 1931, in Oak Park, Ill., to Andrew and Ovidia (Hannibal) Gerhardt. On May 18, 1957, he married Patricia Lee (Wood), and she survives him.

He was a graduate of the University of Illinois, where he received a degree in electrical engineering. He served in the U.S. Army. He was employed at Delco Electronics in Kokomo for 35 years. He enjoyed boating and golfing and was a student of space exploration and astronomy in his leisure time.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Lee (Wood) Gerhardt; one son, Ken and Julie Gerhardt, Noblesville; one daughter, Anne and Dave Lybrook, Cicero; twin sister, Barbara Miller, Lee Summitt, Mo.; and grandchildren, Jenna and Jake Gerhardt, Noblesville, and Spencer, Carly and Evie Lybrook, Cicero.

A brother, Robert Gerhardt, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hartley Funeral Home Cicero Chapel with services following at 7 p.m. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at the Cicero Cemetery.
