Mom said in her heart to Him… after 98 years… “I’m ready to go! … and Sara Grace Owen, of Elmore, OH, passed away peacefully, Monday, November 18, 2013 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. Sara was born on October 11, 1915 in Elmore, the daughter of Glen C. and Edith Lyle Ames Wood. She was a registered nurse having graduated from the St. Vincent School of Nursing class of 1937 with a Bachelor’s degree. Sara was head nurse for St. Charles Hospital nursery, Oregon until 1958, when she joined the new general practice office started by Drs. Ridenour and Kieffer in Elmore until her retirement. On October 13, 1942 she married Meldrom C. Owen who preceded her in death on January 8, 1985. She was a lifelong and faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Sara lived in the same house for 94 years. She and Mel were avid square dancers for many years. Sara enjoyed reading. The Elmore Library was started in her homes dining room during WWII and she was one of the founding members of the Elmore Study Club. Sara will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.

Survivors include: Daughter: Julianne “Judy” Richard Flick of Millbury, OH; Sons: James Nicki Owen of Shelby Twp., MI and Marty Pat Owen of Sacramento, CA; 5 Grandchildren and 8 Great-Grandchildren. Sara was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother’s: John Wood and Ken Wood.

In honoring our mother’s wishes, no services will be held. She will be interred with Mel in Harris-Union Cemetery, Elmore, OH. Memorial contributions in memory of Sara may be given to the Elmore Library, Hospice of Northwest Ohio or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Genoa, OH is assisting the family with arrangements.
