Billy E. Richmond, 90, of Beckley, Raleigh County, W.Va., died on 19 Aug 2006 following a short illness. He was born on 04 Sept 1915, at Pluto, Raleigh County, a son of E. Howard Richmond and Elizabeth Crook Richmond.
Mr. Richmond attended Richmond High School, then went on to work for Kopperston Coal Co., New River Co., and Westmoreland Coal Co., where then he retired as a coal miner of 38 years. Mr. Richmond was a born-again Christian and a loving and devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Mr. Richmond was preceded in death by a son, Billy Eugene Richmond; a grandson, John Edward Richmond; two brothers, Reno Richmond and Hobart Richmond; nine sisters, infant Gean Elizabeth Richmond, Vada Upton Smith, Gertrude Eye, Clara Plumley, Macie Lilly Kubas, Roma Bragg, Byeanna Akers, Allie Bragg, and Dorthy Meisel.
Those left to cherish his memory were his loving wife of 69 years, Rachel Marie Smith Richmond; two sisters, Luella Hall, of Beckley, and Norma Smith, of Beckley; a daughter-in-law, Patty Richmond, of Beckley; a granddaughter, Donna Richmond Cummings and her husband Mark, of Maple Fork, W.Va.; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor Ryan Richmond and Madison Sierra Cummings, both of Maple Fork; also several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. John Lares officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
Pallbearers were Joe "Keith" Richmond, Warren Richmond, John Lee Eye, Taylor Ryan Richmond, Mark Cummings, and Kenneth Smith.
