John M. Jackman, 84, retired Crawfordsville banker, who was identified prominently with the banking business of this city for more than three decades, died Saturday at his home, 407 Wallace Ave.

Born March 17, 1869 in a log cabin near Darlington, Mr. Jackman was the son of Willis and Susan Flaningam(sic) Jackman. He married Cora M. Campbell Feb. 5, 1905 in Crawfordsville. Since his marriage he had made his home at 407 Wallace Ave.

Active in church and fraternal affairs most of his life, Mr. Jackman was a member of the First Christian Church and all of Crawfordsville's Masonic bodies. He also was a 50-year member of the Montgomery Masonic Lodge.

Masonic offices held by Mr. Jackman included those of illustrious master of the Montgomery County Council No. 34, in 1910, and eminent commander of the Crawfordsville Commandery No. 25, Knights Templar, in 1911. He was active in the Temple Association. In addition he also had served as treasurer of all the Masonic bodies in this city.

Mr. Jackman attended the Darlington High School and Central Normal College.

Mr. Jackman was identified actively with the banking business of this city 36 years. During this period he was associated with the Crawfordsville Trust Company. He retired in 1947 as vice president of the company. Since then he had been a director of the First National Bank & Trust Company here. Before entering the banking business he was engaged in the insurance business.

Surviving are the widow, two sons, Forrest S. Jackman, Logansport, and Noble E. Jackman, Crawfordsville, and a brother, Charles E. Jackman, Ontario, Ca.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. (CDT) Tuesday at the Bright Funeral Home. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Paul E. Million was the officiating minister. The Crawfordsvile Commandery of the Knights Templar also took part in the services at the funeral home.
