Opal G. Cox, 89, longtime resident of Wichita Falls passed Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Presbyterian Manor. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. No formal visitation is scheduled.
Mrs. Cox was born January 5, 1924 in Claflin, Kansas to the late Henry Riemann and Anna (Christians) Riemann. She married Ray K. Cox on May 9, 1944 in Washington, D.C. and he preceded her in death in 2006. They settled in Wichita Falls in 1947 and were both members of First Presbyterian Church here from that time. Mrs. Cox was a secretary with Civil Service at Sheppard Air Force Base and retired with over 40 years of service. She loved to read and sew and always kept up with politics.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Cox was preceded by two brothers, Willis Riemann and Albert Riemann. Survivors include her two sons, Dr. Alan Cox of Warner Robins, GA and Dr. Dwight Cox and wife, Helena of Wichita Falls; sisters, Ruth Ummen and Mabel Bender both of Great Bend, KS; grandchildren, Rachel Cox of Warner Robins, GA, David Cox and wife, Amy and Anna Schaffner and husband, Bryan all of Wichita Falls; great grandchildren, Connor Cox, Grant Cox and Ian Schaffner; several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Good Samaritan Fund of Presbyterian Manor, 4600 Taft Blvd., Wichita Falls, 76308 or to Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Rd., 76310.
