OWSLEY, Bryan Young, a Representative from Kentucky; born near Crab Orchard, Lincoln County, Ky., August 19, 1798; attended the common schools of Lincoln County; studied law and was admitted to the bar; moved to Jamestown, Ky.; clerk of the circuit court in 1827; presidential elector on the Whig ticket of Harrison and Tyler in 1840; elected as a Whig to the Twenty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1841-March 3, 1843); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1842 to the Twenty-eighth Congress; register of the United States land office, with residence in Frankfort, 1845-1849; died in Frankfort, Franklin County, Ky., on October 27, 1849.
