NEW PARK Evelyn J. Almoney, 83, died on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at the Barbara J. Egan Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Shrewsbury. She was the wife of James W. Smith, who died in 1989, and Herbert J. Almoney, who died in 2006. Born on June 7, 1930, in Pylesville, Md., she was a daughter of the late Raymond W. and Mae A. (Fletcher) Heaps. A lifetime member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Pylesville, she was active in church activities and head cook at the church dinners for many years. She was also a member of the American Legion Post #455 in Stewartstown and the Norrisville V.F.C. in Harford County, Md. Retiring as a supervisor in 1980, Mrs. Almoney had worked 28 years for the former D&D Sewing Company of Delta. She is survived by four children, Patricia Holmes of Airville, Margaret A. Stevens and James R. Smith, both of Pylesville, Md., and Terry Lee Lowe of New Park; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elsie L. Heaps of Belcamp, Md. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Cletus N. Heaps and William L. Heaps. Visitations will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main St., Delta. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. with her pastor, the Rev. Melissa McDade, officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Pylesville, Md.
