1895 The Butte Miner, Butte, Montana, 13 Jul 1895: O.P. Blaine’s Funeral It will take place at 10 o’clock this morning.

Jesse T. Blaine, brother of Oliver P. Blaine, who died here a few days ago, arrived from Plevna, Kas., yesterday and arranged to have the funeral of the dead man take place from Masonic hall at 10 o’clock this morning. Perry Blaine was 59 years old and had been in Montana 29 years.

The funeral car, which will convey the remains to the cemetery, will run slow enough to allow all carriages, hacks and other vehicles to follow the street cars; and as there is a good carriage drive all the way those who prefer can take their carriages.

Blaine was opened yesterday in the presence of Jesse Blaine, the dead man’s brother, and Judge McHatton. The document was dated Aug. 30, 1889, and was witnessed by G.W. Stapleton and C.T. Brant. It was in the possession of Samuel Marchessear and is as follows:

“In the name of God, Amen, I, Oliver P. Blaine, of the city of Butte, county of Silver Bow and territory of Montana, of the age of 52 years, and being of sound and disposing mind and memory, and not acting under duress, menace, fraud or undue influence of any person whatever, declare this my last will and testament in manner following, that is to say:

“First – I direct that my body be buried with proper regard to my station and condition in life and the circumstance of my estate.

“Second – I direct that my executor, as soon as he has sufficient funds in his hands, pay my funeral expenses and the expenses of my last sickness and the allowance to my stepmother, Mrs. Ellen Blaine.

“Third – I give and bequeath to my stepmother, Mrs. Ellen Blaine, of Andrew county, Missouri, the sum of $1,000.

“Fourth – I give and desire all the rest, residue and remainder of all real, personal or mixed property, money and effects owned by or belonging to me at the time of my death, and being in the territory of Montana (all my other property being disposed of) to my two brothers, Lafayette Blaine of Andrew county, Missouri, and George Blaine of De Kalb county, Missouri, and my half brother and sister, Jesse T. Blaine of Kansas and James H. Sagers of Andrew county, Missouri, to be divided equally between said four persons, share and share alike.”

The estate is valued at about $75,000, considerable of which is cash.
