Serious Illness of Former Mayor. Joe Corby Suddenly Stricken. Little Hope Of Recovery

Former Mayor Joseph Corby is seriously ill at his home, 1107 West Granite street. Slight hope is expressed for his recovery and there was a feeling of sadness among Joe's many friends in Butte today. The sickness is meningitis. The attack came suddenly.

Corby was the last Republican mayor of Butte. He was elected to office in 1907 and served until 1909.

When the call came for volunteers during the Spanish-American was, Corby was among the first to respond. He enlisted as a private and came home from the war as a second lieutenant. His patriotism has never been questioned.

During Sheriff Henderson's administration Mr. Corby served as chief deputy. He added to his large list of friends at the time by his courteous treatment of all who had occasion to visit his office. By profession Mr. Corby is a hoisting engineer. He never had an accident during the many years he hoisted and lowered men in the Butte mines.
