Edgar was the son of Hiram Doe and Betsey Doble. He married Lucia Garlick onJan 1, 1876. They were the parents of Albertus, Nellie, and Frank.

Feb 13, 1920 - Humboldt Republican - Edgar H. Doe was born in Hebron, Oxford county Maine, April, 29, 1851. At about the age of sixteen he came with his parents to Belvidere, Illinois, where they spent one winter. Then in company with a gentleman by the name of Lamb, they came by team across the prairies to Algona, Ia.

After spending a year at this place he went to Humboldt and worked several years for Mr. Taft. While in Mr Tafts employ he set out many of the trees in and around Humboldt and at the college. Later the family moved to the old Wendle farm near Bradgate. Mr Doe remaining in this vicinity ever since.

On Jan 1st, 1876, he was married to Miss Lucia Garlick at Fort Dodge, Iowa. To this union were born three children: Albertus Edgar of Marshalltown, Nellie and Frank T. Nellie died in infancy, the others with the mother live to mourn the death of the husband and father.

Mr. Doe was converted on Dec 1st 1907 and united with the Methodist church at Bradgate, and was a consistent Christian the remaining days of his life. He was never known to speak ill of any man and whenever he could be of help to anyone he gladly gave them assistance. Although this page of his life has been closed the memory of his quiet, kindly ways will remain in the minds of many in the community.

He departed this life Feb. 6, 1920, being 68 years, and 9 months of age. Thefuneral services were held at the M.E. church and interment was made at the Union cemetery at Humboldt.

Those who attended the funeral from away were: Mr. and Mrs. Horace Garlick from Fort Dodge and Mr and Mrs George Garlick from Bloommgton, Illinois. On account of sickness it was impossible for Albertus and wife to attend the funeral of the father.
