Leon Lorenzo Moss was born on May 1, 1929 to Eddie Shakespeare and Hazel Mae Moss in Detroit, Michigan. His mother and father preceded him in death.

Leon was inducted into the U.S. Army in February 1951 and served actively until he was honorably discharged in 1957.

Leon was united in marriage with Thelma Delores Dent on September 5, 1953. Out of this union, they were blessed with a loving daughter.

Leon retired from the Chrysler Corporation on October 31, 1996, where he was the reigning "checker champ".

Leon enjoyed listening to "good" jazz, playing a challenging game of checkers and cards, bowling, and having good times with family and friends.

His health began failing in 2006. Leon departed this life on February 21, 2012 at 7:18 a.m. in the Cross Commons assisted living home.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Thelma Delores Moss; a daughter, Diane Patrice Howard; a son-in-law Anthony Howard; a granddaughter, Traci Lynn Howard; a grandson, Jason Moss Howard; a great granddaughter, Kynnedy Ariya Moore; a brother, Melvin Moss; a sister, Maxine Love; two sisters-in-law, Verna Moss, and Rita Moss; one aunt, Lillie Johnson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
