Zelda remained as a stay-at-home mother and wife following the birth of the children. Vic and Zelda relocated to Shawnee Mission, Kansas in 1964 to be near Zelda's parents while Vic was stationed in Green Bay, Labrador. In 1965 Vic and Zelda's fourth child, Ryan, was welcomed to the family. During her many years in Shawnee Mission, Zelda was very active with AAUW, PTA, and PEO.
