Son of John Rumrill and Martha D.

On January 2, 1864, Luman mustered in as a Private in Company D of the 9th Regiment, Vermont Volunteers. He transferred to Company B on June 13, 1865, and mustered out December 1, 1865.

Luman and Mary Nash married on August 24, 1870 in Winchester, New Hampshire. Some transcripts of their marriage record indicate both lived in Winchester at that time. They lived in Rockingham, Vermont by 1880, but would eventually divorce.

At the time of the 1890 US Census of Union Veterans and Widows of the Civil War, Luman lived in Chester Depot. He lived with his niece, Mrs. Crowley, in Chester Vermont during the last years of his life.
A death announcement was published in the Chester Advisory (Chester, Vermont) on March 11, 1905. This death announcement states he was born in North Springfield, Vermont, and his Vermont death certificate states he was born in Springfield, Vermont; other sources suggest he was born in New Hampshire.
Sisters Mrs. Martha Rumrill, Mrs Rosa Patnode, Mrs Angie Rumrill, Mrs Esta Gowey, Mrs. Nellie Shores, brother Millard Rumrill.
