Following childhood health struggles, moved from Midwest to southern CA area in late 1940s, with her parents Vida and Claude Gilstrap. Graduated from Downey High with honors, 1955; went to USC, where she pledged Kappa Delta.

She resumed college study in 1963 at Cal State Long Beach; after completing her Bachelor's, she studied Linguistics at UCLA. As a TA, Delores taught some freshman English courses back at Long Beach ('68- apx '70). Physical and emotional health issues then sidelined her; she resumed work briefly ('78-'86) before retiring.

Relatives and friends remember her lovely penmanship, as well as extraordinary crocheting skills— by her later years, she was crafting lace doilies with sewing thread and a #16 hook.

Los Angeles Times obituary ran on 2-3-2002.

Married to Glen A. Powers (Sr.); Feb. 1957 till (probably January) 1967.

Delores Jean is buried up the hill from her maternal grandparents, Lillie and Otto McReynolds. Claude and Vida are interred near their home in Brea, at Fullerton's Loma Vista Memorial Park.
